My Own Prince Farming
Updated: Jan 16, 2020
I love hearing stories about how people met their spouses and fell in love. Everyone has a unique story, and it always seems like you can definitely see God’s hand at work bringing two people together. Often times many different things have to line up pretty perfectly for two people to end up together. My own love story is fairly unique, and I feel confident looking back now that I am happy I went through the things I did to end up where I am today.
Back in 2015, many of you Bachelor TV fans will remember The Bachelor that year was a farmer from Iowa that they nicknamed “Prince Farming”. I remember looking at my dad halfway through the season and saying, “Can’t you think of any eligible farmers you would set me up with?”. I assumed he did, working with many farmers in our area at our family’s John Deere dealership. He said he would think about it.
He did think about it.
Fast forward to about a year later February 2016, one day my dad proudly announced he had mentioned my name to a young man, Josh. My dad had decided during that “year of thinking” this was the farmer he would let date his daughter. I had no idea who this person was and what my dad could have possibly said to this guy. It was as bad as I thought; he asked him if he wanted a girlfriend and told him that his daughter was available (insert hand to forehead emoji here lol). My dad proceeded to really talk me up. All Josh could say was that’s great but when and how would I ever meet her, “Will she be at the planter seminar?”.
Our family’s John Deere dealership has planting meetings in the spring every year before the season, and after that conversation my dad made sure I would be at that meeting. I knew absolutely nothing about this guy (Facebook creeping can only get you so far). But I did in fact meet my future husband at a meeting about planters. I won’t say it was totally love at first sight, but I think there were definitely elements of that at play. I just couldn’t believe how easy this guy was to talk to and how good he looked in his “work clothes”. A farmer. Little did I know what I was getting into that day or asking my dad for all those years ago.
Talking to my dad (aka cupid) after the fact, he said he had been praying about it and really felt led that this is who he needed to introduce me to. I also know my life up until the point I met Josh had turned out much differently than I had expected. If I had not gone through a battle with a chronic illness and changed college and career plans multiple times, I don’t think I would have ever met my husband and be where I am today. Though those times were hard, it was worth a different path than I expected to bring me to my husband and where I am today. God usually has a much better plan for us even though it might take us through some valleys; He will also get us to the mountain tops.
And that is the story of how I met my Prince Farming and ended up on the farm!
